CleanTech Chiller
Proj.1 : Cleantek Chiller 2017- Fish Project storage facility
Community Sustainable Innovation in Action:
the construction of a walk-in chiller facility in a coastal village—an inspiring grassroots solution that empowers local fishermen, reduces post-harvest losses, and strengthens the community’s seafood value chain.
This video documents a practical, community-focused-sustainable initiative , from Morobe Province. In the footage, Ruth oversees the construction of a walk-in chiller facility designed to help local fishermen preserve their catch more effectively. The key themes and takeaways include:
Innovative Storage Infrastructure powered by solar: You’ll see the setup of a cold storage unit right in the village context—demonstrating how simple, well-planned infrastructure can have a big impact. youtube.com
Community Empowerment: The chiller isn’t just a structure; it’s a tool that empowers local fishers to reduce spoilage, increase their earnings, and enhance food security..
Sustainable Fisheries Support: By extending the shelf-life of fish, the project fosters sustainable livelihoods and opens opportunities for broader market access.

Exploring Mt. Tuboro: Mapping an Untapped Adventure Trail
A project that took a three-day expedition to map and document a remote adventure trail leading to Mt. Tuboro—a majestic mountain standing at nearly half the height of Mt. Wilhelm. The mission was to identify and record potential sustainable and eco-tourism sites along the route, using a grassroots, community-led approach.
The outcome of this expedition was the successful development of a Product Identification Key Book, complete with GPS coordinates, photographs, and ecological features of each significant site. The trail highlights culturally significant landscapes, pristine natural environments, and locations ideal for eco-lodges, hiking camps, and conservation-based tourism.
The coordinates of Mt. Tuboro are now accessible to the public, enabling further exploration and future investment in tourism development:

Ecological Summery
It can be estimated that there are over 30,000 mature trees in the virgin rainforest ecosystem of the Tuboro Summit, which covers approximately 4,500 hectares of land including smaller mountain ranges.
The total number of trees cannot be determined at this point due to geographical and topographical limitations; however, this figure can be verified through a full dendrometry study.
Wildlife Significance
The summit is home to several endangered species, including the Raggiana Bird of Paradise.
The Tuboro Summit provides key ecosystem services to surrounding communities:
1. Provisioning Services: Food and water for both humans and wildlife.
2. Regulating Services: Natural air filtration and water purification.
3. Supporting Services: Nutrient cycling through diverse forest layers.
4. Cultural Services: Spiritual significance and traditional hunting grounds. Human impact remains low due to sacred status and isolation (only one village within a 200km radius).
